Pawel Althamer's sculptural installation titled Venetians (2013), installed at the Arsenale for the 2013 Venice Biennale. The installation features life-size sculptures features casts of faces and hands of local Venetians, with their bodies expressed through ribbons of grey plastic. The sculptures evoke the work of Alberto Giacometti and explore the idea of presence and non-presence. The work embodys Althamer’s assertion that “It is a major achievement to realize that the body is only a vehicle of the soul.”
